2022
This work was inspired by some black mould which was growing from the corner of my room a year prior. I found it interesting how the mould accentuated the depth of the rooms corner. As an avid drawer, it reminded me of how I might accentuate depth in a drawing through shading. In this project I utilise hole punched pieces of paper, graphite wash, and natural glue to 'shade' an architectural feature in my studio: a pillar.
Shading can be compared visually to the chemical process of diffusion which refers to the movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. This project plays on these comparisons, where the hole-punched paper becomes cells, and the pillar might become something more.
